on the top-right of the screen and select 'Open avast!' to open avast! user interface. Then select 'Status' from the OVERVIEW section (if not already selected) and you will see your Application version and Virus definition version on the right.

If you want to exclude certain files or directories to prevent them from scanning by avast! Antivirus 7.x for Mac, you can set it up in the File System Shield preferences. Click the avast! Menu bar icon
on the top-right of the screen and select 'Open avast! Preferences'. On the bottom-left corner of the displayed screen with avast! Preferences click the lock icon to allow changes (unlock it). Then switch to the 'Shields' section (if not already displayed) on the top-left corner and next to the File System Shield click the 'Advanced...' button. Now, you can click '+' (plus) button to add any file and/or directory to the Exclusions list. If you want to remove some file and/or directory from the Exclusions list, just select it's entry in the list and click '-' (minus) button. When finished, click 'Done' for the changes to take effect.

Warning messages in a scan results don't warn you about infection. It's just innocent explanation why the scan wasn't possible as thoroughly as intended for the file (e.g. encrypted ZIP archive, system files in use, etc.).
| "SSL/TLS Connection Detected" alert always flashing on screen. What can I do? |
The message means, that Mail Shield in avast! Antivirus 7.x for Mac cannot check your e-mail traffic because it is encrypted. It appears every time your mail client connects to the server. The solution is to disable SSL in account preferences in your mail client, and set it up in the Mail Shield preferences to let avast! Antivirus 7.x for Mac scan your e-mail traffic and still connect encrypted to the mail server.
If you are using default Mac OS X Mail for example, open 'Mail' from the Dock, then click 'Mail' in the Menu bar on the top-left of the screen and select 'Preferences...'. Click 'Accounts' icon on the top of the displayed screen, select your mail account from the list on the left, and then switch to 'Advanced' section on the top-right corner. Clear the checkbox 'Use SSL' placed next to the Port and keep the default port number (110 for POP, or 143 for IMAP). Then exit the screen with preferences, and when asked , click 'Save'.
Now you have to specify the mail servers you are using to the Mail Shield preferences in avast! Antivirus 7.x for Mac. Click the avast! Menu bar icon
on the top-right of the screen and select 'Open avast! Preferences'. On the bottom-left corner of the displayed screen with avast! Preferences click the lock icon to allow changes (unlock it). Then switch to the 'Shields' section (if not already displayed) on the top-left corner and next to the Mail Shield click the 'Advanced...' button. On the top of the next screen switch to the 'SSL' section. Now, you can click '+' (plus) button to specify each mail server hostname. If you want to remove some mail server from the list, just select it's entry in the list and click '-' (minus) button. When finished, click 'Done' for the changes to take effect.
If you are unsure about the proper hostnames of your mail servers, you can get them from account preferences in your mail client. If you are using default Mac OS X Mail for example, open 'Mail' from the Dock, then click 'Mail' in the Menu bar on the top-left of the screen and select 'Preferences...'. Click 'Accounts' icon on the top of the displayed screen, select your mail account from the list on the left, and then switch to 'Account Information' section (if not already displayed) on the top. From there you should see hostnames of your Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server.
