How do I log into to my Customer Portal?

What Operating Systems (OS) can I use the VPN on?

Mac OS 10.4 and above (10.4 users can't use client, but can manually set up their Mac's native client using PPTP).

Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (NET Framework 3.5 or higher needs to be installed).


Do I have to use the avast! SecureConnect VPN Client to open a VPN connection?

No. The client is very cool and makes it easier to use the features of your VPN, but you’re free to use your Mac or PC’s built-in VPN client if you prefer. For Android, Apple iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) and Linux, we utilize your device’s built-in clients.


Can I use the VPN over any type of Internet connection?

Yes. The VPN should connect over any wired or wireless Internet connection.


When should I use the VPN?

Any time you want to connect to the Internet with extra security and privacy.


Which VPN type is best to use? I’m not a crypto-nerd.

OpenVPN if possible.

L2TP/IPsec or Cisco IPsec are excellent choices as well.

Lastly, PPTP is an older and less secure VPN protocol but comes in super handy if the others are blocked or slow.


How many devices can I use the VPN service on?

You may load or configure the VPN on all supported devices that you personally own, but we allow only two simultaneous active VPN connections per account (typically a smartphone/tablet and a computer). If you need additional accounts for your personal or household use, you may add another VPN to your account in your Customer Portal.


How do I use my VPN on another computer or device?

For Mac, PC, or Linux, log into to your Customer Portal from the new computer, and under 'My Services', click on 'Download Client Software' under 'My Active Services'.


Is there a bandwidth limit? Do you throttle connection speed?

No. We don’t limit bandwidth or throttle performance. We carefully monitor every server in the network 24x7x365 for load and performance and add more servers and network connections as needed. That way, we always maintain a substantial bandwidth and CPU reserve for peak demands.

That being said, we reserve the right to take action if we find the system is being abused, for example, if we find that a VPN is being used for the purpose of operating a private phone company.


Is there a regularly scheduled maintenance window?

Yes. It’s Saturday at PM EST (GMT/UTC -5) or 6 PM EDT (GMT/UTC -4) during Daylight Saving Time and lasts for one hour.
