How to uninstall avast! Antivirus 9.x for Mac?

Uninstallation of avast! Antivirus 9.x for Mac must be carried out from the application's Menu bar. Please note, that simply deleting or moving avast! to the Trash will not completely remove the program.

Uninstalling avast! Free Antivirus 9.x for Mac

If you want to uninstall avast! Antivirus 9.x for Mac please follow these steps:

  1. Click the avast! Menu bar icon on the top-right of the screen and select 'Open avast!' to open the avast! user interface,

    ...alternatively, open 'Finder' from the Dock,

    ...select 'Applications' on the left, and double-click the 'avast!.app' icon.

  2. Then click 'avast!' in the Menu bar on the top-left of the screen, select 'Uninstall avast!',

  3. ...and when asked to confirm the uninstallation, click 'Uninstall'.

  4. If asked for authentication, enter the administrator Name with Password for your Mac and click 'OK' to proceed with the uninstallation of avast! Antivirus 9.x for Mac.

    Note:
    If a message appears to notify you that Online security Extensions cannot be uninstalled when browsers are running, you must quit each browser listed...

    ...for example, if Safari is running, open its user interface, and select 'Quit Safari' from the Menu bar on the top-left of the screen.

    After closing any open browsers, the uninstallation can finish and avast! Antivirus 9.x for Mac is then completely removed from your Mac.
