avast! 8.x: Installing avast! Pro Antivirus
| How to install avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x ? |
The following system requirements are recommended in order to install and run avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x on your computer:
- Microsoft Windows 8 (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or higher (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or higher (any Edition excl. Starter Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit) or Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit).
- Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium III processor or above (depends on the requirements of used operating system version and other 3rd party software installed).
- 128 MB RAM or above (depends on the requirements of used operating system version and other 3rd party software installed).
- 500 MB free space on the hard disk, 800MB if also included Google Chrome will be installed (to download and install).
- Internet connection (to download and register the product, for automatic updates of the program and antivirus database).
- Optimally standard screen resolution not less than 1024 x 768 pixels.
Note:
avast! 8.x isn't supported (isn't compatible, cannot be installed and won't run) on DOS, Microsoft Windows 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows ME, Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, or any others which aren't specified as supported.
| Installation of avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x |
Before you begin the installation of avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x please ensure that:
- You are logged into Windows as an Administrator or as a user with administrator permissions (for instructions refer to Windows help or the documentation on Microsoft's website, or contact your computer/network administrator),
- All other programs in Windows are closed and not running (for instructions refer to your vendor's documentation),
- Your previous antivirus software is fully uninstalled (for instructions refer to your vendor's documentation),
...to prevent avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x from being incorrectly installed or aborted unexpectedly. When you are ready, proceed as follows:
- Firstly download the avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x from the avast! website, or you can click the button below to begin download the multi-lingual version:
...and save it to your computer, in a location where you will easily be able to locate it. For example save the downloaded setup file avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe on your Windows Desktop.
- Locate the downloaded setup file avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe (depending on your system preferences, the file extension may be hidden), on your Windows Desktop for example. Now, if you are logged in to:
- Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista as a user with administrator permissions, right-click on the setup file and choose 'Run as administrator' from the context menu,

- Windows XP as an Administrator or as a user with administrator permissions, or your are logged in to Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista as an Administrator (i.e. not a user with administrator permissions), just double-click the setup file,

...and if prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click 'Yes' (or 'Continue' in Windows Vista) to begin the installation process.

- For a few seconds you will briefly see the installation files being copied to your computer.

- When avast! Setup Wizard starts you will see a welcome screen. Preferred language for the installation can be changed by clicking on the current language shown on the top right corner. Before continuing with the installation of avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x please read the User License Agreement.

- Then choose what type of installation you prefer:
- Click the 'Express Install' button in the middle of the welcome screen to proceed with default installation of avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x in preferred language, and with minimal user interaction during the setup process.

- Depending on the License you have, select one of the following options on the next screen:
- Install in trial mode - A time-limited trial license will be automatically downloaded from the Internet and installed together with avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x.

During the 30 day trial period you need to purchase and insert a license file to continue to use the product and stay protected. For more information and detailed step-by-step instructions please read the following article:
- Supply a license file - If you have already purchased a license, you can enter it during the installation of avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x. Firstly you have to save the license file License.avastlic, which was attached to the e-mail you received after purchasing it, somewhere on your computer where you can easily locate it, for example on your Windows Desktop.

Then enter the full path to its destination directory on this screen,

...or you can click 'Browse...', and locate it by browsing your computer via the navigation dialog.

After the installation is completed, you can continue to use the product for 12, 24, or 36 months from the date of purchase, depending on the purchased license period.
- Supply an activation code - If you purchased a retail version of avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x use this option to activate your license during the installation.

You will be asked to enter the activation code from the attached label and to enter a few other details on the next screen.

Your license will be activated automatically during the installation through your Internet connection. After the installation is completed, you can continue to use the product for 12, 24, or 36 months from the date of activation, depending on the purchased license period.
- Supply an avast! 4.x license key - If you have previously purchased a license for avast! Professional Edition 4.x which is still valid, you can enter the license key and convert it to a new license for avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x for free.

Your license will be converted automatically during the installation through your Internet connection. Please note, that in avast! Professional Edition 4.x the license period was calculated in whole months so the expiration date was displayed as the first day of the month after the license period ended, while in avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x the license period is calculated in the exact number of days from the date of purchase.
When it's done click 'Next' to continue.
- Afterwards you will be ashttp://static.avast.com/support/KB/images/V8/AVKB2/EN/ked whether or not you would like to install Google Chrome or Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. Please read enclosed Google Licensing Agreement for details. Then click 'Next' to continue.

- The avast! Setup Wizard will then create a system restore point and afterward will display an installation progress bar. Depending upon the speed of your computer, it may take a few minutes to complete the installation.

- After the installation is sucessfully completed click 'Finish' to exit the avast! Setup Wizard.

avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x should then be installed on your computer and ready to use. The avast! user interface is accessible via the orange ball icon
in your system tray or the orange shortcut icon on your Windows Desktop.

- Click the 'Custom install' button to proceed with advanced installation for users preferring possibility to choose destination directory where will be avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x installed and which program components and features to install.

- On the next screen you can change the default Destination directory by entering the full path where you want avast! Pro Antivirus 8.x to be installed, or you can click on the button marked '...' on the right, and locate the installation folder by browsing your computer via the navigation dialog. When the path is specified, or if you want to keep the default, click 'Next'.

- Besides the 'Typical' and 'Minimum' installations with their predefined Configuration, you can also select 'Custom' on the next screen, where it is possible to add or remove individual program components and features in a checkbox tree. Then click 'Next' to continue.

- On the Installation information screen check your setup configuration before proceeding with the installation. If you missed something, just use the 'Back' button go back and change the configuration. When you've finished your configuration click 'Next'.
