What about an anti-spam module for a new version of avast? Would you guys be interested? ;)

Just a personal opinion, which I am sure will not be the norm., but... No  :P

I'd like a couple of other things in Avast, but prefer to leave Anti-Spam to my mail client and don't need anything else which might not 'interface' .

yes if this anti-spam module will support both POP3 and http protocols (ISP mail account and web mail a/c like yahoo and hotmail).
But I have 2 questions:

1) will this be available at the HE?  ??? ???
2) Will the program become a huge memory/resources consuming monster?   ??? ???
BTW, I was testing TrendMicro Internet Security (TIS11)suite beta1 as a beta tester and it contains anti-spam module but I did not like it at all  >:( >:( as it uses too much memory/resources. So, I am afraid that would be the case with Avast4.2.  :'( :'(

I tend to mistrust all-in-one packages.  I like getting the best anti-virus I can find from one source, the best firewall I can find from another, etc.

However I am curious how anti-spam would be incorporated into an anti-virus program.  Would it work on one of the same principles as the separate spam programs already available?

By the way; I've had no problems with 4.1.  Free Cell worked on my W98SE even before the latest build (at least it appeared to be working, I don't know how to play it.  I could click on cards and they'd go to squares on top anyway).  After the latest update I found out that I still don't know how to play it.

Thanks for working so hard to make avast! the best!

yeah.....I'm not one for all-in-one packages either.  it tends to bloat software and hog more recources than its worth.

if you go ahead with it though....kindly allow for modules to be completely turned off as an option. I mean...completely OFF. :D

Not really. Allmost all  hugh Provider offers allready a Spamfilter. Even some Mailer do(like Mozilla). Improving the Malwareability is more intresting(for me).

You will not become a Norton-like Programm, will you? :)

No, not really...

I like the idea of having layered defence...

this means 1 program as firewall, 1 Antivirus, 1 Anti trojan, 1 spyware killer, 1 scriptblocker, 1 popup blocker. etc....

Having a configuration like this, means that in a possibel infection, not all programs are shutdown by a potentional malware. And you come out defenseless :(

ACK! But for me a Scriptchecker and also a Mailchecker are more or less useless, if the Resident Protection can handle that too.

add these

the possibility to scan compressed files , for example max 2mb or 1mb (to set up) this could make resident shield more fast, it can happen to scan zipped files about 30 mb
it could freeze the system

a default button in resident shield (advanced) open/read
this for the novice!!

add some options in the global setting
like setup the interval of updater or vrdb...
or add the possibility to hide the icon or ....

the possibility to DON't load in memory provider that we don't NEED
for example if a user need only a standard shield
is in vain avast load
SCRIPT
OUTLOOK
MAIL
P2P
& instant ...

Please keep Avast as slim as possible and concentrate on the virus/malware/worm stuff. Antispam modules are incorporated in many email clients and this would make either the Avast module or the email client module redundant.
