About AVAST Software
In the late 1980s, Czech computer technology innovators Eduard Kucera and Pavel Baudis developed a program they called “anti-virus advanced set” (AVAST). Later, they realized the serendipity of ‘avast’ being also an English-language nautical term meaning “stop!” – as they would eventually develop their vision into one of the world’s top-ranked antivirus softwares.
Just like in the beginning, we still believe that all internet users need and deserve antivirus protection – one that is dependable, fast, reasonably sized, and unobtrusive… one that scans and updates automatically, and gives only an occasional reminder that it works. As a result, our avast! Free Antivirus is a full-featured product that routinely outperforms many of our competitors’ paid products.
