How to install avast! Free Antivirus 2014?

The following system requirements are recommended in order to install and run avast! Free Antivirus 2014 on your computer:

  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows 8 (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or higher (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or higher (any Edition excl. Starter Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit) or Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit).

  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium III processor or above (depends on the requirements of used operating system version and other 3rd party software installed).

  • 128 MB RAM or above (depends on the requirements of used operating system version and other 3rd party software installed).

  • 400 MB free space on the hard disk, 700MB if also included Google Chrome will be installed (to download and install).

  • Internet connection (to download, install and activate the product for automatic updates of the program and antivirus database).

  • Optimally standard screen resolution not less than 1024 x 768 pixels.

Notes:

  • avast! 2014 isn't supported (isn't compatible, cannot be installed and won't run) on DOS, Microsoft Windows 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows ME, Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, or any others which aren't specified as supported.

  • Using Microsoft Windows operating systems without the latest Service Pack might be no longer supported. For details please refer to the documentation on Microsoft's website:

Installation of avast! Free Antivirus 2014

Before you begin the installation of avast! Free Antivirus 2014 please ensure that:

  • You are logged into Windows as an Administrator or as a user with administrator permissions (for instructions refer to Windows help or documentation on Microsoft website, or contact your computer/network administrator),

  • All other programs in Windows are closed and not running (for instructions refer to your vendor's documentation),

  • Your previous antivirus software is fully uninstalled (for instructions refer to your vendor's documentation),

...to prevent avast! Free Antivirus 2014 from being incorrectly installed or aborted unexpectedly. When you are ready, proceed as follows:

  1. Firstly download avast! Free Antivirus 2014 from the avast! website, or click the button below to download the online installer:

    ...and save it to your computer, in a location where you will easily be able to locate it. For example save the downloaded setup file avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe on your Windows Desktop.

  2. Right-click the downloaded setup file avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe (depending on your system preferences, the file extension may be hidden), choose 'Run as administrator' from the context menu,

    ...and if prompted by User Account Control dialog for permissions, click 'Yes' (or 'Continue' in Windows Vista) to begin the installation process.

  3. Depending upon the speed of your computer, it may take a few seconds while the avast! Setup wizard initializes.

  4. Once the avast! Setup wizard is started, it shows you a few basic installation options on the welcome screen. Preferred language for the installation can be changed by clicking on the current language shown on the top right corner. At the bottom of the welcome screen you can also choose whether or not you would like to install Google Chrome as your default browser and/or Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. Before continuing with the installation of avast! Free Antivirus 2014 please read the End User License Agreement and Google Licensing Agreement for the details,

    ...then continue by selecting the preferred type of the installation:

Regular installation of avast! Free Antivirus 2014
  1. Click 'Regular installation' in the middle of the welcome screen to proceed with the default installation of avast! Free Antivirus 2014 in the preferred language, and with minimal user interaction during the setup process.

  2. After reading a privacy information, click 'Continue'.

  3. The avast! Setup wizard then creates a system restore point and shows an installation progress. Depending upon the speed of your computer and Internet connection, it may take a few minutes to complete the installation.

  4. Once the installation is successfully completed, click 'Done' to exit the avast! Setup wizard.

avast! Free Antivirus 2014 should be then installed on your computer and ready to use. The avast! user interface is accessible via orange ball icon in your system tray or orange shortcut icon on your Windows Desktop.

Please be advised, that it works in 30-day Trial mode from the date of installation. During this period you need to register to get your free license in order to continue to use the product and remain protected. Custom installation of avast! Free Antivirus 2014
  1. Click 'Custom installation' in the middle of the welcome screen to proceed with advanced installation, which allows you to change the destination where you want to install avast! Free Antivirus 2014, and to select only those program components and features you need.

  2. On the next screen you can change the default destination folder by entering a full path where you want to install avast! Free Antivirus 2014, or you can click 'Browse...' on the right, and locate the installation folder on your computer via the navigation dialog. When the destination is specified, or if you want to keep the default, click 'Continue'.

  3. avast! Setup wizard shows you a checkbox treeview with all program components and features where you can select or deselect which one you want to install or not. Program components and features represented by the question mark character "?", instead of the checkbox, are available for other products in the avast! 2014 software line. When you make your selection, click 'Continue'.

  4. On the next screen you can check your setup configuration before proceeding with the installation. If you missed something, just click 'Back' and change it, otherwise click 'Continue'.
