How to install avast! Premier 2014 ?

The following system requirements are recommended in order to install and run avast! Premier 2014 on your computer:

  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (any Edition excl. RT and Starter Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows 8 (any Edition excl. RT and Starter Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or higher (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or higher (any Edition excl. Starter Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit) or Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (any Edition, 32-bit or 64-bit).

  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium III processor or above (depends on the requirements of used operating system version and other 3rd party software installed).

  • 128 MB RAM or above (depends on the requirements of used operating system version and other 3rd party software installed).

  • 650 MB free space on the hard disk, 950 MB if also included Google Chrome will be installed (to download and install).

  • Internet connection (to download, install and activate the product for automatic updates of the program and antivirus database).

  • Optimally standard screen resolution not less than 1024 x 768 pixels.

Notes:

  • avast! 2014 isn't supported (isn't compatible, cannot be installed and won't run) on DOS, Microsoft Windows 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 3.x, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows ME, Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, or any others which aren't specified as supported.

  • Using Microsoft Windows operating systems without the latest Service Pack might be no longer supported. For details please refer to the documentation on Microsoft's website:

Installation of avast! Premier 2014

Before you begin the installation of avast! Premier 2014 please ensure that:

  • You are logged into Windows as an Administrator or as a user with administrator permissions (for instructions refer to the Windows help or documentation Microsoft's website, or contact your computer/network administrator),

  • All other programs in Windows are closed and not running (for instructions refer to your vendor's documentation),

  • Your previous antivirus software is fully uninstalled (for instructions refer to your vendor's documentation),

...to prevent avast! Premier 2014 from being incorrectly installed or aborted unexpectedly. When you are ready, proceed as follows:

  1. Firstly download avast! Premier 2014 from the avast! website, or click the button below to download the online installer:

    ...and save it to your computer, in a location where you will easily be able to locate it. For example save the downloaded setup file avast_premier_antivirus_setup_online.exe on your Windows Desktop.

  2. Right-click the downloaded setup file avast_premier_antivirus_setup_online.exe (depending on your system preferences, the file extension may be hidden), choose 'Run as administrator' from the context menu,

    ...and if prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click 'Yes' (or 'Continue' in Windows Vista) to begin the installation process.

  3. Depending upon the speed of your computer, it may take a few seconds while the avast! Setup wizard initializes.

  4. Once the avast! Setup wizard is started, it shows you a few basic installation options on the welcome screen. Preferred language for the installation can be changed by clicking on the current language shown on the top right corner. Before continuing with the installation of avast! Premier 2014 please read the End User License Agreement,

    ...then specify whether you have a license for avast! Premier 2014, or if you would like to install it in a trial mode by selecting one of these two options:

    • I've already bought a product - to insert the license file or the activation code during the installation process.

    • Install 30-Day Trial - to try the product for 30 days for free without asking for the license during the installation process, and/or eventually, to insert the license later.

    ...and afterwards continue by selecting the preferred type of the installation:

Regular installation of avast! Premier 2014
  1. Click 'Regular installation' on the bottom of the welcome screen to proceed with the default installation of avast! Premier 2014 in the preferred language, and with minimal user interaction during the setup process.

  2. If you have selected the option 'I've already bought a product' on the welcome screen, you'll be asked to insert your license for avast! Premier 2014 in the next step. There are two ways how to do it, depending on the type of the license you have:

    • The License file is requested by default. If you have received the file License.avastlic attached to the order confirmation e-mail after purchasing the product, firstly you need to save it somewhere on your computer where you can easily locate it, for example on your Windows Desktop.

      Then go back to avast! Setup wizard and enter a destination path for the file License.avastlic you just saved, or click 'Browse...',

      ...locate it on your computer using the navigation dialog, and click 'Open'.

      Once the installation will complete, you can continue to use the product for 12, 24, or 36 months from the date of purchase, depending on the purchased license period.

    • The Activation code is shipped with retail products only. If you received it instead of the License file, click the option "Or do you have an activation code? Click here.',

      ...and enter a valid activation code with your registration details to the activation form on the next screen.

      Your license will be activated automatically during installation through your Internet connection. Once the installation will complete, you can continue to use the product for 12, 24, or 36 months from the date of activation, depending on the purchased license period.

    When it's done click 'Continue'.

  3. After that you might be asked whether or not you would like to install Google Chrome as your default browser and/or Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer. Please read enclosed Google Licensing Agreement for the details. Then click 'Continue'.

  4. The avast! Setup wizard then creates a system restore point and shows an installation progress. Depending upon the speed of your computer and Internet connection, it may take a few minutes to complete the installation.

  5. Once the installation is successfully completed, click 'Done' to exit the avast! Setup wizard.

  6. If any new network is detected by avast! Premier 2014, you will be also asked to select one of these firewall modes:

    • Private is the default mode, suitable when your computer is connected to home or company network, including direct connections to the Internet. This setting enables incoming and outgoing communication if allowed by predefined Application Rules. You can also check the option 'Friendly network' when using your computer as part of a private network which is considered to present low security risk, in order to allow all communication with friendly networks predefined by means of IP address ranges in the firewall settings.

    • Public mode is suitable when using your computer to connect to a public network and where you want to ensure the maximum level of security. This is the most secure setting and if selected, no incoming communication will be allowed by default, effectively making your computer completely invisible to others. This would be the recommended setting when connecting to the Internet in cafes, airports or other public places.

avast! Premier 2014 should be now installed on your computer and ready to use, but some program features may start working after you restart the computer. The avast! user interface is accessible via orange ball icon in your system tray or orange shortcut icon on your Windows Desktop.

If you have selected the option to 'Install 30-Day Trial' on the welcome screen, you need to insert a paid license during the trial period running from the date of installation in order to continue to use the product and remain protected. Custom installation of avast! Premier 2014
  1. Click 'Custom installation' on the bottom of the welcome screen to proceed with advanced installation, which allows you to change the destination where you want to install avast! Premier 2014, and to select only those program components and features you need.

  2. On the next screen you can change the default destination folder by entering a full path where you want to install avast! Premier 2014, or you can click 'Browse...' on the right, and locate the installation folder on your computer via the navigation dialog. When the destination is specified, or if you want to keep the default, click 'Continue'.

  3. If you have selected the option 'I've already bought a product' on the welcome screen, you'll be asked to insert your license for avast! Premier 2014 in the next step. There are two ways how to do it, depending on the type of the license you have:

  4. avast! Setup wizard shows you a checkbox treeview with all program components and features where you can select or deselect which one you want to install or not. When you make your selection, click 'Continue'.

  5. On the next screen you can check your setup configuration before proceeding with the installation. If you missed something, just click 'Back' and change it, otherwise click 'Continue'.
