Q: Illegal license key - I have received a message that the license key I am using is an illegal or pirated key. What do I need to do? A: If you have received this message it means our licensing system has detected that you are using an illegal or pirated license key in your copy of avast! Professional Edition. It is quite possible that you didn’t realize this when you purchased it and that you purchased the key from what you thought was a legitimate source. There are very many websites which fraudulently sell avast license keys to unsuspecting users. Usually, they provide license keys for the free Home Edition but actually charge as though the customer had purchased the paid Professional Edition. Other websites provide illegally “cracked” keys. Whenever we become aware of such websites, we try to have them shut down as quickly as possible, but, new sites are emerging all the time.
