How to use SecureLine VPN

SecureLine VPN enables you to connect to the internet via secure Avast VPN servers which protects your connection and ensures your privacy. This article describes how to use SecureLine VPN as a component in Avast Antivirus. If you use SecureLine VPN as a standalone application, read the following article:

Install and activate SecureLine VPN

The SecureLine VPN component is installed by default in Avast Antivirus and requires activation with a paid license. To install Avast Antivirus, refer to the following articles:

If you use Avast Mac Security on a system compatible with SecureLine VPN, SecureLine VPN is installed by default. To install Avast Mac Security, follow the steps in this article:

Connect to SecureLine VPN

SecureLine VPN can be used any time you want to connect to the internet with extra security and privacy and is especially recommended when you are connected to a public or unsecured wireless network.

To connect to a SecureLine VPN server, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Avast user interface and go to PrivacySecureLine VPN.
  2. After going through the tutorial, click Go private to connect to the optimal location.
  1. Click the SecureLine VPN icon on the right side of the menu bar and select Open Avast SecureLine VPN.
  2. After going through the tutorial, click Connect.

You are connected to the SecureLine VPN server. You can also change the default VPN server location if needed.

Connect to a different location

SecureLine VPN has servers in several locations which means you can bypass geolocation restrictions as well as access your favorite content while traveling.

To connect to a different location, click Change location and select a location from the list, then click Go private.

Select the location of the VPN server in the drop-down menu next to the Connect button.

Manage SecureLine VPN settings

  1. Click the gear icon in the top-right corner to open settings.
  2. Adjust your preferred settings:
    • Turn on SecureLine when connected to unsecured Wi-Fi networks: this setting is enabled by default to ensure maximum protection. To adjust this setting, tick the Turn on automatically or Ask before turning on option according to your preferences. To disable this option completely, click the slider.
    • Show SecureLine in the Windows notification area: specify if you want to receive notifications about the privacy status in the Windows notification area. This option is enabled by default. To disable this setting, click the slider.
  1. Click the SecureLine VPN icon on the right side of the menu bar and select Preferences....
  2. Preferences are divided into three sections:
    • General: set SecureLine VPN to launch at user login and update it using beta channel if needed.
    • Account: check and manage your subscription.
    • Wi-Fi: specify what SecureLine VPN should do if you connect to an unsecured Wi-Fi network.
