  1. Tap the Settings icon to open a list of settings and information.
  2. Specify your preferences for the following settings:

Notifications: tap to open your options for receiving Wi-Fi Finder alerts.

Check for Available Wi-Fi Networks

Open the Wi-Fi tab to see a list of nearby Wi-Fi networks. Verify the status, security, and speed of a network, then connect directly from the app. Follow these steps:

  1. If you are not already on the Wi-Fi tab, tap the Wi-Fi icon to see the following two categories of nearby Wi-Fi networks:
    • In range: Wi-Fi networks that are close enough to connect to from your location.
    • In walking distance: Wi-Fi networks that are within walking distance of your location.
If you are currently connected to a Wi-Fi network, the name of the network appears at the top of the page.
  2. Tap the downward facing arrow next to In range or In walking distance to open the list of Wi-Fi networks in that category.
  3. Tap a Wi-Fi network from the list to see the status, and, if not already close enough to connect to, the walking distance to the network, as well as a range of actions that you can perform.
  4. Tap the action that you want to perform:
    • In range:

Connect: to connect to the network.
Share Wi-Fi: to connect to the network and make it available to other Wi-Fi Finder users.
Network detail: to verify or test the speed and security, and see the number of successful connections.
Forget network: to disconnect from and forget the details of a connected network.
    • Within walking distance:

Navigate to Wi-Fi: to open directions to the network in Google Maps.
Show on map: to see the location of the network on the Wi-Fi Finder map.
Network detail: to verify or test the speed and security, and see the number of successful connections.
Report problem: to report that the location of the registered network is incorrect or the network does not exist.

Alternatively, tap Smart Connect at the top of the Wi-Fi tab to connect directly to the fastest and most secure available Wi-Fi network.

Locate Wi-Fi networks using the Map

View available Wi-Fi networks and verify their proximity to you on the Map tab. You can also check a Wi-Fi network's security, speed, status, and number of successful connections before you connect. Additionally, open Google Maps for directions to networks that are not already within range. Follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Map icon to open a map of nearby Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Tap a Wi-Fi network on the map to display the name and status of that network.
  3. Tap one of the following options:
    • Navigate: to open directions to the network in Google Maps.
    • Details: to see the security, speed, and number of successful connections, if available.

When a Wi-Fi network is within range, you can connect to it directly from the app.

Download Offline Wi-Fi Network Packs

Download Wi-Fi network packs for a selection of countries so that you can find and connect to them even when you are offline. Follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Offline icon to open a list of available Wi-Fi network packs.
  2. Find the location where you want offline access to Wi-Fi networks by scrolling through the list or using the search box, then tap the name of the location to select it.
  3. Tap Download.

Wi-Fi Finder notifies you when the download is complete. Downloaded network packs appear at the top of the list of Offline Wi-Fi network packs under the sub-heading Downloaded.

After you have downloaded a Wi-Fi network pack, you can access the Wi-Fi networks in the pack from the Available Wi-Fi or Map tabs of the app even while you are not connected to the internet.
