Avast 2015: The Action Center in Windows 7 cannot find an antivirus program on the computer

Issue

The Action Center in Windows 7 reports that an antivirus program cannot be found on the computer although Avast 2015 is completely installed and fully active.

Details

The Action Center in Windows 7 acquires information about the current status of installed antivirus software by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). If there is some problem in the WMI Repository, or the WMI service is not started, the Action Center then reports outdated or misleading information.

Solution

To resolve this problem, scan and repair the WMI Repository in the system as follows:

  1. Log in to Windows as an Administrator or as a user with administrator permissions.

  2. Open Command Prompt, i.e. in your Windows from the Start menu select All Programs or the Programs sub-menu, then Accessories, then right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator from the context menu,

    ...and if prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click Yes.

  3. Enter the command  winmgmt /verifyrepository  into the Command Prompt and press the Enter key, to perform a consistency check of the WMI Repository.

    Note:
    If you get the error message WMI repository verification failed... ...Access denied when running the above command, please repeat whole procedure and carefully follow steps 1. - 2. listed above.


  4. After you get either WMI repository is consistent or WMI repository is inconsistent message, enter the command  winmgmt /salvagerepository  into the Command Prompt and press the Enter key, to rebuild the WMI Repository.

    Note:
    If you get either WMI repository is inconsistent or WMI repository salvage failed message, run the command  winmgmt /salvagerepository  a second time.

  5. After you get the message WMI repository is consistent in the output, restart your computer.

Once the computer has restarted, the current status of installed antivirus software should be reported correctly in the Action Center.
