Avast SecureLine VPN is an application which allows you to connect to the internet via secure Avast VPN servers using an encrypted tunnel to protect your online activity from eavesdropping. Avast SecureLine VPN mainly offers:

  • Protection: when many people connect to the same public network, attackers can capture sensitive data, such as logins and passwords. The encrypted VPN connection provides efficient protection against these types of attacks.
  • Anonymization: with broadband connections, many people have fixed IP addresses which can be tracked when browsing sensitive sites. With a VPN connection, the browsing session is effectively anonymized - the IP address the remote server sees is the address of the VPN server, not the user.
  • Unrestricted access to the internet: when connected to a VPN server in another location, you gain access to content that may be restricted in your location. This allows you to browse freely, even from countries with web censorship.

How do I update to the latest version of SecureLine VPN?

Updates are managed by your iOS device. If a new version of SecureLine VPN is available, the App Store notifies you.

How do I activate SecureLine VPN?

  1. Ensure you are signed into your Apple account, then tap the SecureLine VPN icon to open the app.
  2. Tap Start Trial, then tap Already purchased and select an option:
    • Tap Restore from iTunes if you purchased your subscription from the SecureLine app or the App Store.
    • Tap Enter Avast subscription code if you purchased your subscription from the Avast website, then enter your subscription code and tap OK.
  3. Tap Connect and select a location from the list.
  4. Tap Install Profile to set up your SecureLine VPN profile, then tap Allow to add VPN configurations.

How do I know how long my license is valid for?

Open SecureLine VPN and tap the gear icon to access settings. Tap Subscription to view the duration of your license.

Can I use my SecureLine VPN license on multiple devices?

Yes. You can use your license on up to five devices.

You can only use your license on devices of the same platform. If you purchased a SecureLine VPN license for iOS, it is only valid on iOS devices, and an Android SecureLine VPN license is only valid on other Android devices.

What happens after my 7-day free trial ends?

After your 7-day free trial, Avast notifies you via email that your trial has expired. You can purchase a subscription to continue using SecureLine VPN.

  1. Open SecureLine VPN by tapping the icon on your device's main screen.
  2. Tap Subscribe now to view subscription options.

How do I cancel my SecureLine VPN subscription?

If you no longer want to use Avast SecureLine VPN on your Android or iOS device, you need to cancel your subscription. Your subscription is not automatically cancelled when you uninstall the app from your device.

  1. Open Google Play on your device.
  2. Tap the Menu icon on the top left corner of your screen, then select Account from the list.
  3. Tap Subscriptions to open a list of your current subscriptions.
  4. Tap Cancel next to Avast SecureLine VPN, then tap Cancel Subscription to confirm the cancellation.
  5. Open your device settings, and tap iTunes & App Store.
  6. Tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen, then tap View Apple ID.
  7. Tap Manage under Subscriptions.
  8. Tap your SecureLine VPN subscription to open more details.
  9. Turn off Automatic Renewal for the subscription.

Your subscription is cancelled and will stop at the end of the current billing cycle.

How do I recover my license from a previous version of SecureLine VPN? (for Android users)

If you upgraded to Avast SecureLine 2.x and your license wasn't recovered automatically, you can enter your activation key from Avast SecureLine 1.x. If you don't know your activation key, and you use Android version 6.0 or later, follow these steps to restore your license:

  1. Ensure your Google Play account is configured on your device.
  2. Go to Settings → Apps → Avast SecureLine and tap Permissions.
  3. Tap the slider next to Contacts to change it from the OFF position to ON.

Once you open SecureLine VPN 2.x, your license is restored.

After enabling this permission and opening SecureLine VPN 2.x, you can disable the permission as it is no longer needed.

How do I adjust SecureLine VPN settings?

  1. Tap the SecureLine VPN icon on the main screen of your device to open the app.
  2. Tap the gear icon to access Settings.
  3. Review the following options:
    • Subscription: to manage your subcription and to view how long your license is valid for.
    • Automatic reconnect:
    • Reinstall VPN Profile: to troubleshoot network configuration issues.

    Additionally, you can access Help and review the Terms of service and Privacy policy.

  1. Tap the SecureLine VPN icon on the main screen of your device to open the app.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner of your screen to access Settings.
  3. Review the following options:
    • Subscription: view the duration of your subscription.
    • Automatic reconnect: reconnects you to SecureLine VPN when you switch networks.
    • Enable Unsecured Wi-Fi notification: displays a warning notification when you attempt to connect to an unsecured Wi-Fi network.

How do I know that VPN is active and working?

After you select a location and tap Connect, the text Securely connected appears. To confirm your connection, go to your device settings and ensure the slider next to VPN is switched to the ON position.

How do I change my location?

How do I configure SecureLine VPN to automatically connect?

To automatically connect your device to SecureLine VPN when you switch between Wi-Fi and mobile networks:

  1. Tap the SecureLine VPN icon on the main screen of your device to open the app.
  2. Tap the gear icon to access Settings.
  3. Move the slider next to Automatic reconnect to the right so that it turns green (ON).
  4. Tap the box next to Automatic reconnect so that it turns green.

How does automatic reconnect work on iOS devices? Why sometimes the VPN icon is not visible when I unlock my iPhone?

On iOS devices, connections behavior is fully controlled by the operating system. The VPN connection is terminated as soon as the network communication is not needed. This saves battery life. Once it is needed again, then iOS starts a new VPN connection. This can cause a short delay in displaying the VPN icon in the status bar when unlocking the device. If the Automatic reconnect option of SecureLine VPN is enabled on your device (by default), iOS still controls the VPN connection. Thanks to the most modern VPN protocol IPsec+IKEv2 provided by iOS and the SecureLine VPN infrastructure, the VPN connection is in average established under 1 seconds. Therefore this has a minimal impact on the user experience.

Why is my Internet connection slower when I connect to SecureLine VPN?

You may experience a slower Internet connection when using SecureLine VPN. A VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server. Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection.

Why do Gmail and Live Mail send me suspicious activity alerts when I connect to SecureLine VPN?

If you select a different location when you connect to the internet via SecureLine VPN, Gmail and Live Mail may detect this change. You may receive an email reporting suspicious activity, and will be asked to change your password if you think someone in a different location has accessed your email. Verify the VPN location you selected to ensure your security.
