Uninstalling Avast 2015

In some cases uninstalling Avast 2015 and then reinstalling it can resolve problems created by a faulty initial installation.

There are two methods to uninstall Avast 2015:

How to uninstall Avast 2015 from the Control Panel - Quick steps
  1. First, open the Avast Setup Wizard via your Windows Control Panel. This step differs slightly according to which operating system you are using. For instructions, please visit the following article:

  2. When the Avast Setup Wizard appears, select the option Uninstall from the left pane and click Continue.

  3. Click Yes to confirm uninstallation of Avast 2015.

  4. When the uninstallation is successful select Restart computer to reboot immediately.

Once the computer is restarted, Avast 2015 is uninstalled. Keep in mind that your computer is now without protection against malware and other threats.


How to uninstall Avast 2015 from the Control Panel - Detailed steps

Regular uninstallation from the Control Panel is the simplest method.

  1. First, open the Avast setup wizard via your Windows Control Panel.

  2. When the Avast Setup wizard appears, select the option Uninstall from the left pane, and then click Continue.

  3. Click Yes, when asked if you really want to uninstall Avast 2015.

  4. After the uninstallation is successfully completed, select Restart computer to reboot immediately. Or, select Restart later if you wish to reboot manually after finishing your work.

When the computer is restarted Avast 2015 is uninstalled. Keep in mind that your computer is now without protection against malware and/or other threats.

Uninstallation of Avast 2015 using the Avast Uninstall Utility - Quick steps

You can remove all Avast files from your computer using the Avast Uninstall Utility while running Windows in Safe Mode:

  1. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility:

    avastclear.exe

    ...and save the file avastclear.exe to your Windows Desktop.

  2. To use the tool successfully, you must restart Windows in Safe Mode.

    If you try to run the file while not in Safe Mode, Avast Uninstall Utility prompts you to restart in Safe Mode. Click Yes to confirm and your computer will restart in Safe Mode automatically.

  3. With Windows running in Safe Mode, right-click the downloaded file avastclear.exe, and choose Run as administrator to execute the Avast Uninstall Utility.

  4. On the Avast Uninstall Utility screen enter or browse for the location of Avast program files (the default installation destination is already filled in). Then select the product edition to uninstall from the drop-down menu and click Continue.

  5. A yellow bar shows uninstallation progress. Wait for uninstallation to complete.

  6. When the uninstallation is complete a confirmation screen appears. Select Restart computer to complete the removal of all Avast files.

When the computer restarts Avast 2015 is completely removed. Keep in mind that your computer is now without protection against malware and/or other threats.


Uninstallation of Avast 2015 using the Avast Uninstall Utility - Detailed steps

If you are experiencing any problem with your computer which prevents Avast 2015 from being uninstalled via the Control Panel method, you can uninstall it using the Avast Uninstall Utility while running Windows in Safe Mode:

  1. Firstly download the Avast Uninstall Utility by right-clicking the download link below, and select Save link as... (or Save target as...):

    ...and save the file avastclear.exe to your Windows Desktop.

  2. To use the tool successfully, start Windows in Safe Mode. Instructions are found on Microsoft's website:

    ...or if you try to run the file while not in Safe Mode, Avast Uninstall Utility prompts you to restart in Safe Mode.

    Click Yes to confirm and your computer will restart in Safe Mode automatically.

  3. With Windows running in Safe Mode, right-click the downloaded file avastclear.exe, and choose Run as administrator from the context menu to execute the Avast Uninstall Utility.

  4. On the Avast Uninstall Utility screen enter or browse for the location of Avast program files (the default installation destination is already filled in). Then select the product edition to uninstall from the drop-down menu and click Continue.

  5. A yellow bar shows uninstallation progress for Avast 2015. Do not close the window during this time, or the uninstallation will not complete properly.

  6. When the uninstallation is complete a confirmation screen appears. You must restart your computer for all the files to be removed completely. Click Restart computer to reboot immediately, or you can select Restart later.

After the computer restarts, Avast 2015 is completely removed. Keep in mind that your computer is now without protection against malware and/or other threats.
