The system requirements for Avast Pro Mac Security and Avast Free Mac Security, are the following:

  • Apple Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), Apple Mac OS X 10.7.x (Lion), Apple Mac OS X 10.8.x (Mountain Lion), Apple Mac OS X 10.9.x (Mavericks) or Apple Mac OS X 10.10.x (Yosemite).
  • Intel based Mac computer with 64-bit processor.
  • 512 MB RAM or above (1 GB RAM or higher preferred).
  • 256 MB minimum hard disk free space.
  • Internet connection (to download and register the product, for automatic updates of the program and virus database).
  • Optimally standard screen resolution not less than 1024 x 768 pixels.
Avast Mac Security 2015 will not run properly if you have any other antivirus software installed.

How can I download and install Avast Mac Security 2015?

  1. To download the latest version of Avast Pro Mac Security or Avast Free Mac Security use the following links:

How can I uninstall Avast Mac Security 2015?

Unlike many Mac applications, Avast Mac Security cannot be fully uninstalled by dragging the application to the Trash. To uninstall Avast Mac Security 2015 you must first open the program and use the built-in Uninstall option.

  2. Click Avast Mac Security in the Menu bar and select Uninstall Avast.
  3. Click Uninstall Avast to confirm the uninstallation.

No - when you install Avast Free Mac Security, registration is automatic so there is no action required. If you would like to connect to your Avast Account, to benefit from the device management feature, you can do so in the Account. (See below.)

How do I insert the license file into Avast Pro Mac Security?

License for Avast Pro Mac Security can be purchased through Avast Resellers only.

After receiving a confirmation e-mail, save the attached file License.avastlic to a familiar location. After Avast Mac Security installation is complete, you can activate the license file.

  1. Click the Avast Menu bar icon select Open Avast.
  2. Select the Status tab and click Insert license file.
  3. Browse for the license file downloaded from the confirmation e-mail. Open the file and confirm the subscription information.

Avast Pro Mac Security is then activated for the remaining duration of the license.

How can I check which version of Avast Mac Security 2015 is installed?

For information about the installed version of Avast Mac Security 2015 click the Avast Menu bar icon and select Open Avast. Click Avast Mac Security in the Menu bar and select About Avast Antivirus. A new window displays your Application version and Virus definition version on the right.

You can exclude certain files or websites from scanning by Avast Mac Security 2015 in the Preferences.

What does the status message "Unable to scan" mean in scan results?

This is just an explanation of why a file could not be scanned (e.g. encrypted ZIP archive, system files in use, etc.). It does not mean that there is anything wrong with the file, just that it was not available for scanning. To see details, open a scan report. Right-click in the scan results window and select Non-scanned. The filenames and paths to files marked Unable to scan are displayed.

What if I am unable to send or receive e-mails after installing Avast Mac Security?

If you are unable to send or recieve e-mails after installing Avast Mac Security, you can try to disable IPv6 in Mail Shield preferences.

  1. Click the Avast Menu bar icon and select Open Avast.
  2. Click Avast Mac Security in the Menu bar and select Preferences....
  3. In the Preferences screen select Shields and scroll down to Mail Shield. Click Advanced....
  4. Select the General tab and then untick the Enable IPv6 option. (You will need to confirm this action with your administrator credentials.)
