How to Back Up and Restore Customized Settings

When you back up your customized settings, the settings are stored in a single backup file. Later, you can easily restore these settings without the need for further configuration. The back up and restoration of customized settings is available across the Avast Antivirus product line.

How to Back Up Customized Settings

Back up customized settings that you may need to reconfigure in the future. For example, if you reinstall an operating system or upgrade your computer.

To back up your settings, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the Avast desktop icon to open the Avast user interface:
  2. Right-click the Avast icon in your system tray and select Open Avast user interface from the menu:
  3. Select Settings from the menu on the left to open the Settings window.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings window and click Back up settings.
  5. In the Back Up Settings dialog that opens, select the components with customized settings that you want to back up, and click Continue.
  6. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, select the location where you want to save the backup file, and click Save.
  7. Click OK when an Information dialog indicates that you have successfully exported your customized settings.

Your customized settings are backed up and available for you to restore in Avast 2016 when you need to.

How to Restore Customized Settings

If you have previously backed up your customized settings, you can simply restore the settings when you need to. For example, if you reinstall an operating system or upgrade your computer.

To restore your settings, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the Avast desktop icon to open the Avast user interface:
  2. Right-click the Avast icon in your system tray and select Open Avast user interface from the menu:
  3. Select Settings from the menu on the left to open the Settings window.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings window and click Restore settings.
  5. In the Windows Explorer window that opens, select the previously saved backup file that you want to restore, and click Open.
  6. In the Restore Settings dialog that opens, select the components with customized settings that you want to restore, and click Continue.
  7. Click OK when an Information dialog indicates that you have successfully imported your customized settings.
    Some settings may not take effect until after you restart your computer.

Your previously backed up customized settings are restored in Avast Antivirus.
