How to set up Avast Passwords

This article describes configuration of Avast Passwords on mobile devices. If you want to configure Avast Passwords installed on computers with Avast Antivirus, please read the following article:

Instructions for setting up and using Passwords can be found in the following sections:

Set up Passwords

  1. Tap the Avast Passwords icon to open the app, and read the intro.
  2. Tap Get started to start configuration.
  3. Create a Master Password and tap Set. Type your Master Password again on the next screen and tap Confirm.
  4. Log into your Avast Account to set up synchronization and backup... ...and authorize your device with one of the following options:
    • If this is the first device you are synchronizing, a Passwords synchronization group is created and a backup is stored. The password for this backup is the same as the Main Password for the device (the first device added to the group).
    • If you are adding this device to an existing synchronization group for Passwords, you must authorize it on a device which is already authorized. Confirm the authorization message which appears on your previously authorized Mac, Windows PC, Android or iOS device.
    If you skip this authorization step, your passwords on this device are not synchronized with your other devices until you authorize this device. For more information read the following article:
  5. Tap Allow if you want to receive notifications.
  6. Tap Allow to confirm.
  7. Go to Settings and tap Autofill.
  8. Tap Activate in Safari.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  3. Create a Master Password and tap Set Password. Select either a plain text password or a 4-digit password. Type your Master Password again on the next screen and tap Confirm.
  4. Log into your Avast Account to set up synchronization and backup... ...and authorize your device with one of the following options:
    • If this is the first device you are synchronizing, a Passwords synchronization group is created and a backup is stored. The password for this backup is the same as the Main Password for the device (the first device added to the group).
    • If you are adding this device to an existing synchronization group for Passwords, you must authorize it on a device which is already authorized. Confirm the authorization message which appears on your previously authorized Mac, Windows PC, Android or iOS device.
    If you skip this authorization step, your passwords on this device are not synchronized with your other devices until you authorize this device. For more information read the following article:
  5. Tap Setup now to continue configuration.
  6. Tap Setup autofill.
  7. Tap Enable accessibility.
  8. Tap View accessibility settings and tap Avast Passwords on the next screen.
  9. Slide the switch to enable the permission. Then tap OK to confirm.
  10. These steps can differ slightly depending on the Android version.
  11. Go back to the app and tap Allow custom keyboard.
  12. Tap Go to settings.
  13. Tap Go to keyboards.
  14. Slide the switch next to Avast Autofill. Then tap OK in the dialogs to confirm changes.
  15. Once Avast Autofill is enabled, tap Done.
  16. Go back to the app and tap Finish to complete the configuration process.

Manage accounts

Each time you log into an online account in your browser for the first time, the Passwords extension recognizes the new login attempt and offers to save the account details to Passwords. Alternatively, you can add the details of an account manually on the Passwords screen by following these steps:

  1. Tap the plus icon.
  2. Select an account from the list. If the account you want to add is missing from the list, search for it or tap Custom to add it.
  3. Optionally select a color for the account (this color appears in the account icon), then provide the following details:
    • Account name: a name that will allow you to easily find and recognize your account.
    • Website address: the website address of the account, for example, https://www.example.com.
    • Username: the username (often an email address) that you use to log into the account.
    • Password: the password that you currently use to log into the account.
    Tap Save to confirm the data. If you selected an account that was already added to the list, you are only asked to provide the Username and Password.

A tile representing your newly added account details appears on the main Passwords screen.


To edit or delete a previously added account, follow these steps:

  1. Tap an account tile to open the account contents.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Modify the existing account, and Tap Save to confirm your changes... ...or tap Delete to completely remove the account. Confirm removal by tapping Delete in the dialog.

    • Password: the password that you currently use to log into the account.
    Tap the tick icon to confirm the data. If you selected an account that was already added to the list, you are only asked to provide the Username and Password.

To edit or delete a previously added account, follow these steps:

  1. Tap an account tile to open the account contents.
  2. Tap the pencil icon to edit the account and confirm your changes by tapping the tick icon on the next screen... ...or tap the trash bin icon to completely remove the account. Confirm removal by tapping OK in the dialog.

Manage notes

The Secure Notes section is a place where you can safely store notes in Passwords. All notes are encrypted and protected by your Master Password to ensure maximum security. This feature protects your confidential information from unauthorized access. Add a new note by following these steps:

  1. Tap Notes on the main screen and tap the plus icon.
  2. Optionally select a color for the note (this color appears in the note icon), then provide the following details:
    • Title: a title that will allow you to easily find and recognize your note.
    • Note contents: any data that you want to keep secure, such as PINs and contact details.
    Tap Save icon to confirm the data.

To edit or delete a previously added note, follow these steps:

  1. Tap a note tile to open the note contents.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. edit a note and confirm your changes by tapping Save... ...or tap Delete to completely remove the note. Confirm removal by tapping Delete in the dialog.

Notes cannot be restored once you delete them.

Notes cannot be restored once you delete them.

Logging in on a website or app with Passwords

Ensure autofill is enabled in your Safari settings to use the autofill feature. Go to Settings → Autofill, tap Activate in Safari and follow the tutorial to complete the process.

To use the autofill overlay, ensure that you enable the Accessibility permission in your Android settings. On some devices, it is also necessary to manually enable the custom keyboard.

  1. Open the account that you want to log in to and tap the share icon.
  2. Tap the key icon to open Avast Passwords.
  3. Use your Touch ID or type your Master Password, and tap Unlock to authorize access.
  4. Tap the account.
  5. Tap Sign in to finish the process.
  1. Open the account that you want to log in and tap the key icon.
  2. Tap your e-mail address shown at the bottom of the screen to log in. You can also tap the menu icon to use other options.
  3. Tap Sign in to finish the process.

Adjust Passwords settings

To manage your Passwords settings, tap Settings on the main Passwords screen.

The following options are available for Passwords:

  • Synchronization & Backup: sync your Passwords with your Avast Account so that you can use Passwords across all your devices. For more information about synchronization read the following article:
  • One Touch Login (paid feature): use your mobile device to log into your online accounts on your PC. For more information read the following article:
  • Change Master Password: change your current Master Password.
  • Touch ID: use Touch ID instead of Master Password when you log in.
  • Lock on Exit: lock Passwords after you exit the app.
  • Auto-Lock: specify after what time Passwords gets locked automatically (by default 3 minutes).
  • Clear Clipboard: specify after what time your clipboard is cleared (by default 30 seconds)
  • Autofill: enable Passwords to fill out your login details automatically.

To manage your Passwords settings, tap the menu icon in the top-right corner and select Settings.

The following options are available for Passwords:

  • Synchronization & Back-up: sync your Passwords with your Avast Account so that you can use Passwords across all your devices. For more information about synchronization read the following article:
  • Activate auto-fill: enable Passwords to fill out your login details automatically.
  • Activate Fingerprint: use Fingerprint instead of Master Password when you log in.
  • One Touch Login pairing (paid feature): use your mobile device to log into your online accounts on your PC. For more information read the following article:
  • Change Master Password: change your current Master Password.
  • Auto-lock when not in use: specify after what time Passwords gets locked automatically (by default 5 minutes).
  • Activate auto locking: lock Passwords 5 seconds after the screen turns off.
  • Enable screenshots: enable taking screenshots to send them to Avast Support in case of any issues with the app.
