How to manage your expired Avast Antivirus subscription

When your Avast Antivirus subscription has expired, your user interface displays the text Your license has expired.

You can either purchase a new license to continue using the software or manually switch back to Avast Free Antivirus. Refer to the sections below for instructions:

Renew your subscription

To continue using your paid Avast Antivirus product:

  1. Click Reactivate below the expiration warning, or click the Reactivate button on the left panel.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to either purchase a new subscription or insert an activation code or license file.

Switch back to Avast Free Antivirus

  1. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  2. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Switch back to Avast Free Antivirus.
  4. Click Restart computer when the update is complete to save the changes.
After you restart your PC, you may be required to register to ensure that Avast Free Antivirus works properly. To register your Avast Free Antivirus, follow the steps in this article:
  1. Press the Win key and X key simultaneously, then select Programs and Features from the menu that appears.
  2. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Switch to Avast Free Antivirus.
  4. Click Restart computer when the update is complete to save the changes.
After you restart your PC, you may be required to register to ensure that Avast Free Antivirus works properly. To register your Avast Free Antivirus, follow the steps in this article:
  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Control Panel.
  2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program if you are using the default category view, ...or click Programs and Features if you are using the large/small icons view.
  3. Right-click your version of Avast Antivirus, then select Change from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Switch to Avast Free Antivirus.
  5. Click Restart computer when the update is complete to save the changes.
