What should I do if I'm unable to browse the web or use other software on my Mac?

Avast security shields analyze information coming and going from your Mac and within it, in real time. These components detect and block suspicious files, dangerous websites, and unauthorized connections.

Connectivity issues (for example, if you are unable to use online software or browser certain sites) may be due to an Avast security shield blocking an action.

Use the troubleshooting steps below to determine which shield may be causing the issue:

  1. Open Avast Mac Security and select Preferences from the left panel.
  2. Ensure Shields is selected in the new window that appears.
  3. Click Disable next to File System shield, and perform your original action (for example, if you were unable to access a certain site, try to access this site).
  4. If the problem persists, turn the shield on again and repeat the above steps for each Avast security shield.

When you determine which shield is causing the connectivity issue, you can set an exclusion for a certain file, site, or mail server by following the steps in the article blow:

  • Avast Pro Mac Security
  • Avast Free Mac Security
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.12.x (Sierra)
